To guarantee the quality of our pieces, there are parts of the body that we choose not to tattoo at IRIS: palms of the hands, soles of the feet, sides of the fingers, lips, eyelids and genitals. For the same reason, we do not make pieces exclusively in white ink. We do not copy or duplicate designs. Our artists will do their best to design something unique using the references you provide.
When you get a tattoo, the first layer of the skin is punctured making it exposed. This means that the "wound" will undergo a healing process. The time for healing varies in each case, but the average time is between two and four weeks. The first few days are fundamental, which is why we give you an aftercare kit with the necessary products and detailed instructions.
We recommend coming in well-fed and drinking a lot of water during the 24 hours prior to your appointment. Hydrated skin is the best ally of a good tattoo. It’s important that you don’t consume alcohol or drugs before getting the tattoo.
You will see your final tattoo design on the day of your tattoo appointment. You are the one that has the final approval, so don't worry, you will have a chance to do minor modifications if necessary. When you request an appointment you will have a chance to upload 3 images that will be used as references. Keep in mind that we do not copy or duplicate any designs. A tattoo is a collaboration between the client and the artist. We encourage all our clients to browse through all our artists and find the one that best matches the tattoo vision.
We do not recommend using numbing cream before we tattoo you. The cream may alter the process and final look of the tattoo and damage the skin. The pain is the way your body communicates when a break is needed and our artists will be constantly checking to see how you are feeling. We will take care of you, no worries.
Depending on the timeline and severity of the scar. The scar will have to be at least one year old to be able to tattoo over it. As for keloids, it’s recommended to ask your dermatologist prior to getting tattooed. Tattoo reactions will vary on different skin types.
Tattoo allergies may happen, but they are nor frequent. In these cases, it’s usually red ink tattoos that may cause minor irritation. Tattoo allergies will always depend on the individual’s skin and the aftercare process.
Yes, we use vegan ink. Please let us know if you would like to use vegan ink or if you have any skin conditions so we can be mindful of the process.

Yes, we pierce minors aged 12–17 with parental consent and supervision. Requirements vary by location:
Miami, FL:
We require a notarized authorization form from the Florida Department of Health. The form must be notarized and dated the same day as the piercing. You can get it notarized in advance at a bank, post office, or notary office, or use an online service such as https://www.notarize.com/.
Nashville, TN:
A parent or legal guardian must be present with valid ID and provide proof of guardianship, and sign the required consent forms at the studio.
Piercing guidelines (both locations):
Ages 12–14: ears and nostril piercings
Ages 15+: navel piercings
Ages 16–17: eyebrow and septum piercings
We have threadless and threaded jewelry that come with a flat back and bendable and clicker hoops. The materials we use are solid gold or implant certified titanium.
Anywhere between 18g and 14g depending on the location of the piercing. Once your piercing heals you can do a different gauge in the jewelry.
No, sorry about that. We only pierce with jewelry that is sold at the studio. This will guarantee that you are getting pierced with sterilized solid gold jewelry 14k/18k or implant certified titanium. You will select your jewelry with a staff member before your piercing. All of our studs have flat backs.
Our piercers do not recommend starting with hoops in most piercings because movement caused by hoops can cause irritation making the healing process to be longer and more complicated. However, we are able to do it for you if you are aware of the risks and still want to. Healing is different for every person and if there are any complications we also provide consultation and solutions if any concerns arise.
An aftercare kit will be provided to you as part of the service. Yes, nice right? Here are some of the essentials: Always wash your hands prior to cleaning or touching your piercing. Saline rinse during all your healing process. For some placements a clean gauze saturated with the saline might feel easier. If your piercer suggests using antibacterial soap, clean it gently and rinse with water. Avoid using soaps with fragrances or triclosan. Rinse thoroughly to remove any trace of soap. Do not rotate the jewelry. Let it air dry or gently pat it with clean and disposable paper towels. Cloth towels can snag on jewelry and cause an injury or carry bacteria. Healing can vary from person to person, it can take between 4 to 9 months.
It is completely normal to get some bleeding, swelling, bruising or tenderness. During your healing you can feel itchiness or secretion of a whitish-yellowish fluid (this is not pus). The skin tissue might feel tight around the jewelry as well. Your piercing may seem healed before the process is actually complete. This happens because tissue heals from the outside in, so even if it feels fine, the interior is not healed. Be patient and keep cleaning it. Once you heal the jewelry may not move in the piercing, do not apply force if this happens. Always keep cleaning your piercings as part of your daily hygiene routine. If you like your piercing do not take off the jewelry because it might shrink or close within minutes, even if it has been pierced a long time ago.
This is completely normal, it is important that you keep doing your aftercare routine for the necessary number of weeks. If you experience any redness or swelling even after a month, we suggest you change your treatment to antibacterial unscented soap (liquid) 2 to 3 times a day. Rinse with warm water after and let air dry.
It depends on each person and piercing location. For earlobe it is usually from 3 to 4 months. Cartilage and nose, 3 to 6 months. For body piercings like nipples or navel anywhere between 6 to 9 months. Remember to be patient and never take out the jewelry and keep cleaning your piercing 2-3 times a day.
If you want to switch to a hoop, until the piercing is fully healed. If you want to change your stud, wait at least two months after you get pierced.
Yes! Regardless if you got pierced or not with us we provide complimentary consultation. Our piercers are always happy to help you with your process.
